Public Relations Account Executive
River Strategies, a certified women-owned full-service strategic communications firm, is looking for an Account Executive to add to our growing firm. This role will be focused on crafting creative and strategic campaigns for a wide range of clients. The Account Executive will be a result oriented team player who will work alongside the firm leadership to create and execute strategic public relations plans.
Duties:
You will work collaboratively with our team to conceptualize story ideas, secure unique placements, and execute a variety of public relations initiatives for our clients. You’ll be on the front line pitching to print, broadcast and digital media, as well as leading writing projects such as press releases and media pitches. Your duties will also include compiling and building media and influencer lists, participating in brainstorms, and assisting in research projects.
Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism or marketing related fields
Minimum of 2-3 years agency or in house PR experience
Thorough knowledge of media pitching and developing press materials
Excellent writing, editing and presentation skills
Strong attention to detail and the ability to develop creative pitch concepts
Familiarity with Cision, Meltwater, TrendKite, SimilarWeb, TalkWalker, etc.

Content Strategist
Every single strategy our firm develops and implements is fueled by content. We tell stories that influence the influencers, drive public support and define brands.
We’re in search of an extraordinary storyteller who can sniff out the most compelling stories and figure out the most engaging medium in which to craft them. You’ll need to tell stories in a way that compels action, which means you’ll be charged with finding what really matters in each of our clients’ industries and to their audiences.
A solid understanding of digital distribution strategies and how to leverage social media is necessary. We tend to attract former journalists, but that’s not a mandatory background.
You’ll have a chance to have an impact on how things work in our society. Our clients tend to come from industries that are driven by public policy, which means we see our work change things. It can be pretty exciting.
Responsibilities:
Writing and editing articles on subjects ranging from education to politics to automotive to entertainment
Researching, brainstorming, and developing pitches for content ideas and programs
Conceiving and developing content including big-picture series/projects across platforms, for highly targeted audiences and multiple clients
Conducting interviews and research for article development
Copyediting and fact-checking
Lead the creation or facilitation of short-term and long-term editorial calendars and style guidelines
Daily management of social media communities, build growing social media following and increase overall engagement with followers
Understanding of social media and how to craft clever, compelling, strategic content that will perform well on each platform
Experience shooting and finishing still photography and video for web

The ideal candidate will have:
Professional experience as a content strategist; creating and writing content for web or other digital media
Experience writing for B2C, B2B digital marketing campaigns, websites, and branding campaigns.
Ability to adjust the message and tone of writing based on a company’s branding and unique voice.
Experience working with a broad array of clients in multiple industry verticals
Understanding of social media and social media strategy and how to craft content that will perform well on each platform
Extensive knowledge of influencer-marketing landscape, including industry trends and relationships with influencers of varying verticals
Highly creative and imaginative, and curious about clients' products, services, and competitors.
Exceptional time management, project management and amazing research, analytical, and decision-making skills
Standout idea generator and problem solver
Skilled in writing clear, concise and grammatically correct copy.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Can work under pressure and manage workloads effectively; demonstrated ability to juggle multiple tasks for multiple projects
Avid follower of developments in content strategy as a discipline
Understanding of paid social and content strategy
Self-starter, proactive, attentive and diligent
Journalism, reporting/editing experience
A Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field: English, Journalism, Print or Broadcast

INTERN: MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
River Strategies is seeking a fall Public Relations/Marketing Intern, who is full of creative ideas and eager to contribute to our team. Will be responsible for juggling multiple projects simultaneously, such as planning events, writing press releases, and assisting on digital campaigns. Interns will learn about branding, marketing, public relations, public affairs and digital strategy. We are a boutique firm with offices and clients in Chicago and Detroit. Responsibilities include:
Fully support company’s PR/Marketing strategy and helping to execute it in different phases
Help to create and curate engaging content
Effectively utilize social media and blogs
Build and update media lists and databases
Schedule, coordinate and attend Lincoln Forum (our public affairs group) events throughout the fall
Other duties as needed
Requirements:
Strong desire to learn along with professional drive
Solid understanding of the different social networks
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently
Must be enrolled in a college, university, or other accredited college program in which you must receive credit for the internship.
Must be available 15-20 hours per week
